REC operational status (December 5, 2023, until further notice) - REC is in modified operations due to the upcoming LPFM filing window and other resource intensive projects. We are currently not accepting any incoming live telephone calls. Callers are advised to please leave a message on the voice mail. Those with questions about LPFM can visit LPFM.app to get a general explanation of the service or use the resources at RECnet.com to get more information to more detailed issues (see recnet.com/faq and recnet.com/lpfm).

At this time, we are in embargo for all services except:

  • License to cover applications on REC handled applications.
  • Extensions of REC handled STA applications.
  • STA and silent requests directly related to a natural disaster.
  • Activities related to the National Periodic Test (limited to those who paid for Form One earlier this year).
  • The embargo is expected be lifted on December 18, 2023 or when we can determine that we have adequate resource time to handle embargoed application types. The embargo may be extended in the event of a government shutdown where the filing date for the LPFM window is extended. Thank you for your understanding.

LPFM Standby is CLOSED. - [12/5/23 10:45 AM ET] Due to the pending work load, we cannot guarantee that any new "standby" requests for REC services related to the window can be processed in time for the filing window. LPFM Third Adjacent Channel Study Released

Study shows favorable to potential elimination of third adjacent restrictions.

The FCC has released the long awaited study of third adjacent channel interference by Low Power FM (LPFM) stations. This report was ordered by Congress as a stipulation of the Radio Broadcast Protection Act passed a couple of years ago that imposed a third adjacent channel restriction to LPFM stations in respect to full power FM stations and FM translators.

An early view of this report shows very favorable to the restoral of the third adjacent channel. REC will evaluate the report and consult with our fellow LPFM supporters.

According to reports that we have received, there will be a public comment period upcoming. We will keep everyone up to date.

FCC announces singletons in Translator Invasion

FCC identifies over 4000 translator applicants that are not MX.

On 6/30, the FCC issued a public notice that identified over 4,000 applications filed during the Great Translator Invasion window of March, 2003. These applications have no other competing translator applications and should be considered singleton. These applicants are not subject to auction.

These applicants will be required to update their FCC application by 8/29/2003. Once the applicant does that, the application will be declared "accepted for filing". At that time, a 15 day public comment period will be open for petitions to Deny.

REC files comments in response to Lakeshore responding to Journal Bc

REC Networks today has filed a response to Lakeshore Broadcasting, licensee of KWCX, Willcox AZ.

Lakeshore is attempting to move KWCX from Willcox to Davis Monthan AFB, a locality surrounded by the City of Tucson, an urbanized area.

In Journal Broadcasting's (licensee of several Tucson FMs) Reply Comments in this proceeding, they claimed that DMAFB is not listed on the Census and should not be considered as a community for allotment purposes. REC had made similar claims in our Reply Commnents.

On the community status issue, Lakeshore responds using Speedway, IN as an example that a community completely surrounded by a major city can still qualify as a community for allotment purposes.

REC open Letter to Rep. Maurice D. Hinchey (D-NY)

REC supports the spirit of the Reclaiming the Public Airwaves Act. REC wants assurances that non-commercial issues are also addressed.

    Hon. Maruice D. Hinchley

First of all, on behalf of REC Networks, I would like to personally thank you for taking the stand that you are on the media ownership issue.

You appear to be one of the few who are not addressing strictly television ownership but also radio ownership issues. Unfortunately, unless you live in a remote Western community, then your chances of independent ownership of radio station is almost non-existent.

Although I am not a constiuent of your area, I do have some small ties to the Hudson Valley area, but this media issue is not just an Upstate issue, but is a issue of national importance.

LPFM Applicants Facing Competition Can Use MAX

The MAX System returns for an anticipated MX remedial filing/settlement window.

REC has been hearing information that the FCC is planning to start working on the MX (mutually exclusive) LPFM applications starting 'later this summer'.

In anticipation for any remedial windows that may open for this, REC has fixed up and reactivated MAX, the Mutual Application eXchange.

MAX is a community forum where LPFM applicants can move meet with other applicants in an attempt to reach settlement agreements by either proposing a new channel, a new location, co-location or timeshare.

At this time, we are not aware of what the FCC will allow LPFM applicants to do to remediate their applications yet. However, we would like to see as many applicants ready to go as the window may be short.

New LPFM Singleton and MX List online

Singleton and MX information now incorporated in the LPFM Scoreboard.

Information on LPFM applicants who face no competing applications but have not been acted on yet (singletons), applicants who are short spaced to other applications (other than the March translator applications) and applicants who face competing applications from other LPFM applicants (MX or Mutually Exclusive) is now available at the LPFM Scoreboard at www.recnet.com/lpfminfo.

New functionality in the Scoreboard system replaces the quarterly Singleton list that is issued by REC.

Anime Hardcore Radio/Hardcore J celebrates anniversary

This is Anime Hardcore's Third and Hardcore J's Second

REC's Anime Hardcore Radio is celebrating it's third anniversary this weekend. Anime Hardcore Radio was created Memorial Day weekend of 2000 as a format change from the old "Powerpuff-Hardcore" radio service. Over the past 3 years as many as 6 different services have operated under the Anime Hardcore Radio name. Due to increased costs due to the new royalty fees that now must be paid, Anime Hardcore Radio eventually reduced to the single feed that it is today.

In celebration of it's three year aniversary, the remaining Anime Hardcore broadcast, Hardcore One has switched to Narrowband audio. This change permits us to expand our music selection as well as provide scheduled programming.
