REC operational status (updated May 17, 2024 8:30AM EDT) - REC will be in "mostly normal" operations today. Emails are preferred over phone calls. REC will be in limited operations on Monday May 20, 2024 due to family priorities. Phone support may not be available but email will be monitored. REC History - 2010

2010 started as a fairly quiet year for REC but things would start to get charged up as we go along. REC would speak out in opposition of an Appeals Court network neutrality decision favoring Comcast. After terms of the contract between REC and Sirius/XM have expired, REC relaunches FMFIND.info, a website that can be used by satellite radio owners and hobbyists to find FM broadcast channels that can be used for very low power FM transmitters.

First of all, let me say greetings to the Amherst Alliance's Don and Nick. I am glad to see you all still out there. The nice thing about the LPFM service is that there are many diverse voices not just in the licensees but also in those who are fighting for the service. In reading the Amherst comments, it gets me thinking that they were not invited to the party. In many ways, neither was REC. We knew about the EMF/Prometheus agreement but only because we remained visible through LPFM's low tide.

REC Networks is now using Disqus for handling comments on stories on this site. The use of Disqus is expected to reduce the amount of spam. You may use Facebook Connect, Twitter or a Disqus password in order to make comments. All of the usernames and passwords that in the past you would enter on the right have been deleted. KUSF: Yet another argument for LPFM expansion

KUSF was a Class A non-commercial educational station owned and operated by the University of San Francisco, a private institution. If you were to look at their program schedule, was very impressive. A line-up of new music and cultural programming from many parts of the world.

REC reinforces Channel 6 position in ET Docket 10-235

REC Networks filed comments in Engineering and Technology (ET) Docket 10-235 which related, in part, to the improvement of the VHF television broadcast service.

In the filing, we reinforced our position due to the minimal number of new opportuntiies for LPFM stations in major urban areas despite the passing of the Local Community Radio Act that the spectrum of TV Channel 6 (or Channel 5 in some areas) be allocated to LPFM secondary to full power DTV stations but primary to LPTV stations.

REC releases new LPFM Search Tool

REC Networks has released the latest version of the Low Power FM (LPFM) Channel Search Tool. This tool is used by prospective licensees of LPFM stations, media activists and others who wish the test the potential for community radio in a particular area.

The new LPFM Search Tool includes the base functionality to support the changes that are being mandated in the Local Community Radio Act of 2010.

REC comments on Great Translator Invasion (Auction 83) and balancing with LPFM

REC Networks has filed comments with the FCC in MM Docket 99-25 in response to two comments that were recently filed. The comments were filed by a group of 21 broadcasters who have pending applications for translators under the Auction 83 window. The other comments were filed by religious broadcaster Educational Media Foundation (K-Love & Air-1) who also has pending Auction 83 applications.

REC statement on Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ)

REC is very disturbed by today's assassination attempt on Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ) which also resulted in the death of US federal judge John Roll as well as the death of 5 other citizens including one of Giffords' staffers and a 9-year old girl.

In the aftermath of today's shooting, many have stated that the media may have inspired the suspect to take this action. Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik during a press conference expressed similar concerns.
