DTV conversion going smooth in Phoenix

Here in the Phoenix area where REC is based, we have been seeing TV stations cutting off their analog signals and so far, the bumps in the road have been very few. The FCC has authorized TV stations to make the cut at any time during the day today. They are not required to cut at 11:59PM as originally ruled.

Here's a current rundown of all of our stations here in the Phoenix market:

3 ch - KTVK (Ind)
By 8AM, the analog 3 signal was on the air and was playing the nightlight programming. Channel 3 has been operating at half power under an STA due to what we believe is a stage failure at the transmitter site. The Ch. 3 plant will remain in nightlight until July 12. 3TV's digital signal can be found on channel 24.

5 ch - KPHO (CBS)
As of 9AM, the analog signal that once blessed us with Wallace and Ladmo is still humming away with normal programming but with a huge crawl at the bottom of the screen (that has been running for weeks). REC has put in inquiries to KPHO to find out when their exact cut-off time is going to be. Once they cut, KPHO will be authorized to continue to run the analog signal until June 26 as a nightlight station. Their digital signal will be on channel 17.

8 ch - KAET (PBS)
On March 23, Channel Eight was granted an STA to cut over the station to digital operation citing financial issues with operating two transmitters. Eight has cleared their companion channel 29 and has been broadcasting digital on Ch. 8 for several months now.

10 ch - KSAZ (FOX)
Fox 10 made their transition right after their 8AM newscast. Since 10 was cutting back to their VHF channel, removing digital service from channel 31, it caught DISH Network a little off guard. DISH customers were without Fox 10 for about 10 minutes (customers saw a pink screen). We have no reports from DIRECTV customers.

12 ch - KPNX (NBC)
Channel 12 is still broadcasting analog. They did announce on their 10PM newscast last night that they will transition during the 10PM newscast tonight. Since 12 is moving their digital from channel 36 back to 12, a satellite disruption similar to what happened to Fox 10.

15 ch - KNXV (ABC)
As of 8AM, ABC 15 has moved their digital signal from out-of-core channel 56 back to 15 and has ceased analog service.

21 ch - KPAZ (TBN)
Channel 21 went off the air early on April 16 and is has been broadcasting entirely in digital on companion channel 20.

33 ch - KTVW (UNI)
As of 9AM, channel 33 is still in analog. During programming, they have been seen running a clock. That clock is no longer running.

39 ch - KTAZ (Telemundo)
KTAZ elected to convert in the February change. They flash cut and remain on channel 39.

45 ch - KUTP (IND)
Channel 45 cut over just before 9AM at the same time that sister station Fox 10 KSAZ did. KUTP will broadcast on companion channel 26. Since this was not a flash cut, satellite subscribers did not have the same problem that Fox 10 experienced this morning.

51 ch - KPPX (ION)
Channel 51 cut over in February. They flash cut and remained on Channel 51.

61 ch - KASW (CW)
Channel 61 cut over this morning before 8AM with sister station 3TV. They are broadcasting digital on in-core channel 49.
