REC History - 2008

In 2008, a significant part of REC's operations were related to the coverage of flat track roller derby events in Arizona through Michi-chan Roller Sports Proudctions, The Arizona Derby Report would produce a show. REC's Michelle Eyre (Michi-chan) would announce the second event for the Phoenix City Rollers/Arizona Bruisers. Amid contraversy, the PCR would fold up. Michelle was later named as the vice president of another league but due to increased drama in the sport, she resigned that position and remained as an advisor to the nation's second largest amateur roller derby association. REC's Michelle Eyre represented REC and the state of Arizona earlier this year in Washington DC in a contingent of radio proponents met with FCC staff and lobbied members of congress to pass legislation that would eliminate the third adjacent channel restrictions. In March, while REC marks the 5th anniversary of the "St. Patty's Day Massacre" (when a large number of LPFM applications were dismissed for third adjacent channel short spacing) and the "Great Translator Invasion", the FCC implements new rules regarding LPFM stations that are being displaced. The "godfather of phones" Al Bernay passed away in July at the age of 71. The RECnet.com website converts to a new content management system. The year ends with the expiration of our contract with SIRIUS Satellite Radio to provide Part-15 FM data which could unlock the door to FMFIND.info returning sometime in 2009. The number one song on Hardcore J was "Soba ni Irune" by SoulJa featuring Teruma Aoyama.
