Broadcast Query (FCCdata.org) - Data Export Function

REC Broadcast Query (FMQ) now allows you to export data to your computer's clipboard.  The data can then be imported into certain applications such as RadioSoft's Commstudy 2. 

This functionality is available only for FCC FM broadcast records.  The data will include the currently displayed records.  On the initial query, FMQ shows all records marked "current".  Clicking on an appliction reference number will only bring up that record only and only that record will be exported when the export button is clicked. 

Once the button is clicked, the button will disappear as the data is already copied.  To make the button reappear, refresh the browser or click a link inside FMQ.

Newly filed applications and amendments that have not been completely processed at the FCC where there is no ERP or HAAT will not appear correctly in tools like Commstudy 2.  It should be back to normal after the next business day.

To move data from REC to Commstudy 2

  • In Broadcast Query, click the [Export facility Data to Clipboard]  button.
  • Click the [OK] button in the box that pops up in the web browser.
  • In Commstudy 2, click the Transmitters button on the task bar.
  • In the Transmitters window, click on [Sites].
  • Select [Import Sites] and click on [From Clipboard].
  • Your site(s) will appear.

The first line will be a header that describes each tab-delimited column. This data is machine readable by Commstudy 2. 

Each additional line is the data that for the facility that is being exported.  Elements are tab delimited.  Within the final column (TxAntenna), items are pipe delimited.

ERP_w Effective Radiated Power in Watts
Lat Latitude in degrees, minute, second format.
Lon Longitude in degrees, minute, second format.
Licensee Name of licensee/applicant from FCC Facility file

AGL_m Radiation Center Above Ground Level in meters.
GL_m Site elevation (at ground level) in meters.
AMSL_m Radiation Center Above Mean Sea Level in meters.
HAAT_m Height Above Average Terrain in meters.

Status Application Status
Serv (not used in FM)
Pattern (not used in FM)
Effeciency (not used in FM)

Tx_Antenna Information on the antenna - pipe delimited - see below.

Antenna Data

The final column (Tx_Antenna) contains pipe delimited data about the antenna.

The first three columns are not used in FM.

The fourth column is the make and model of the antenna.

The fifth column is the antenna rotation multipled by 100 (175 degrees = 17500).

The sixth and seventh columns arenot used in FM.

Starting with the eigth column, is a 36 groups of three columns giving directional antenna information. 

  • First item: Azimuth (direction) multipled by 100.
  • Second item: not used.
  • Third item: Field intensity for that azimuth multiplied by 1000.  (For exmple 0.754 = 754).
