myLPFM April 2014 release

By admin | 7:59 PM EDT, Sun April 20, 2014

REC is issuing a very long overdue release for myLPFM.

Server migration

myLPFM is the first of several REC services that will be migrating to a cloud-based service.  For the past few years, the broadcast services tools as well as some of the backend support tools for J1 Radio have been operating off of slow servers on site at REC.  This change will put the tools on faster equipment.  Our testing has shown significant improvements in response time.  The DNS changes have already been put in and it may take up to 48 hours for these changes to propagate through the internet.

There are messages on myLPFM right now that indicates whether you are using the new server or the old one.  If you have bookmarked short URLs, signed up for an account, added or made changes to a saved location since April 19, 2014 and it was not on the new server, that data will not migrate over.

REC Broadcast Services (recnet.net) will be the next service to migrate over.  That is expected later this week.

All of the following changes will be effective when you have been migrated to the new server:

Second Adjacent Channel Waivers

We have made some major changes to the Second Adjacent Channel Waiver functionality.  When you bring up an initial channel search, the [Check Potential Waiver] buttons will be disabled.  In order to enable those buttons, click on [Site Info] and enter a tower height.  Once the HAAT is calculated, the buttons will be enabled.

The Waiver functionality now supports depression angle waivers.  When a potential waiver is accessed, there will now be a "Test 3".  Test 3 will look at various antenna configurations sold by RECnexus and some that are not and will provide either the maximum power allowed with that antenna and antenna height (with a minimum of half power per 73.811) or NO answer to whether it may be possible to do a waiver based on depression angle and manufacturer's specifications even if the predicted interference would reach the ground in Test 1.  Test 3 only appears if following the Living Way method (Test 2), interference is predicted to reach the ground.

REC reminds all myLPFM users that the output of myLPFM is not sufficient to enclose with your LPFM application in order to obtain a second adjacent channel waiver.  You should obtain professional assistance with all second adjacent channel waivers.  You can call RECnexus at 1-844-REC-NEXUS.

Maximum ERP

We have noticed some errors in the determination of the maximum ERP for some radiation centers higher than 30 meters height above average terrain.  This release fixes that.

Environmental

The [Environmental] button has been removed from myLPFM.  The functionality does not relfect the current worksheets for the LPFM service.

Channel Report

Minor cosmetic changes made in the Channel Report to prevent the display large number strings (e.g. 0.999995).

Minor Changes

The bug where when an LPFM call sign was entered on the Minor Change screen it was not found has been fixed in this release.
