REC has started to launch services on the Bluesky social media platform. Bluesky offers an alternative to Twitter/X without the advertising and the questionable leadership. REC will be phasing out remaining operations on Twitter/X in favor of using Bluesky. We will not completely remove our Twitter/X presence for historical purposes and to reach a wider audience when necessary, especially during this time when many of our readers start a transition to the Bluesky platform.
For testing and development purposes, we have launched a Personal Data Server (PDS) on our lpfm.social domain which was previously used for a Mastodon operation. We discontinued hosting a Mastodon server due to the extensive maintenance required. Bluesky allows us much of the flexibility we had with Mastodon but without the resource intensive maintenance requirements and decentralized networking.
REC Networks has an official presence on Bluesky at the handle @rec.lpfm.social.
Michelle Bradley, CBT, founder of REC has her presence at the handle @michi.lpfm.social.
The Bluesky platform provides a very simple API which can be used for interacting with the platform. REC will be taking advantage of this platform by announcing the return of the J1 Radio Live Playlist bot applications. These applications will automatically send an update to Bluesky each time a song is played on any of the four J1 Radio networks.
The J1 Live Playlists are currently live at the following handles:
J1 HITS : @hits.j1fm.tokyo
J1 XTRA: @xtra.j1fm.tokyo
J1 GOLD: @gold.j1fm.tokyo
J1 HD: @j1hd.com
We are working on additional automated services and will announce those soon.
On the Live Playlists, we are currently working out some issues regarding rate limiting. If the playlists stop updating, that is why. We believe we have resolved the issues we had at launch, but only time will tell.
REC will be releasing some educational information on this platform for broadcasters to provide information on how they can use their station's website domain name as their handle. We are also looking at the potential of being able to extend the lpfm.social domain so other LPFM stations can use this name space for a customized handle.
More information will follow soon.
