REC releases 2012 LPFM potential population study

By admin | 5:39 PM EDT, Wed August 01, 2012

Have you ever wondered which LPFM stations could have the largest potential audience?  Today, REC is releasing a list includes the population within the 60 dBu service contour as well as the 70 dBu city grade contour (which is not used in LPFM rules but is a good indicator of coverage).

Excluding construction permits and silent stations, the top-25 LPFM stations in order of 60 dBu service contour potential population based on full facilities is as follows:

So, where are things at right now?

By admin | 1:42 PM EDT, Mon July 23, 2012

That is a good question.  I have noticed throughout my many years of involvement in LPFM, we move in waves where one minute, we are upfront and in the spotlight and then we go dormant for a long period of time.  Right now, we are in one of those dormant phases.

So, where are we now?

REC celebrates 28th anniversary today

By admin | 12:53 PM EDT, Fri July 20, 2012

On this day in 1984, California Comments was started. California Comments, or "Calcom" for short was a telephone "commentline" based in the San Fernando Valley, CA. Commentlines were phone lines with automatic answering devices that would play a weekly produced recording from 6 to over 30 minutes in length. The recording would consist of messages that were left by callers on an answering machine (called an "input line"). Callers would talk about whatever was on their mind. It was sort of a "talk radio of the telephone".

Help REC get to this year's GRC

By admin | 5:44 PM EDT, Tue July 10, 2012

UPDATE:  We have secured the funding necessary to make the trip to Urbana for this year's GRC.  We are cancelling this specific fundraising campaign but we are still asking for help paying our bills this summer in our ongoing Summer Campaign.  We need to raise another $400 by the end of August.  We know times are tough for all of us, but any assitance, no matter how small is always appreciated.  Thank you.  =m
