On Monday, October 14, 2024, REC's delivery of IPAWS data will be temporarily stopped for a period lasting approximately one hour. This will not impact the ability to view data on systems. This change is to support the System40 Transition Project.
REC Networks currently receives data feeds from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the National Weather Service (NWS). The FEMA feeds include Integrated Public Alert Warning System (IPAWS) feeds for Emergency Alert System (EAS), Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) and non-EAS items. The NWS feed provides bulletins issued by weather offices across the country excluding marine advisories. These feeds are updated by REC once per minute, 24 hours a day, 7 days per week.
Currently, this data is being processed by scripts that reside on the Legacy server and data is stored on Legacy. With this upcoming change, we are moving the scripts and stored data to System40.
In order to accommodate the clean movement of data from Legacy to System40, we must freeze the IPAWS and NWS data feed for a period of approximately one hour (though it could go longer) on Sunday, October 13, 2024. The time that the transition will take place on that day is still to be determined.
During this period of time, no new updates will be received even though data should be available through all systems that normally use the FEMA and NWS data.
This project was originally scheduled for the weekend of October 5~6, 2024 but was postponed due to Hurricanes Helene and Milton.
