Submitted by on

Summary

LPFM license terms follow those like other broadcast stations meaning an 8 year term and an expiration date at the same date associated with other stations in the same state. LPFM stations that fail to broadcast for any consecutive 12 month period will automatically expire as a matter of law.

Text of Current Rule

(a) Initial licenses for LPFM stations will be issued for a period running until the date specified in Sec. 73.1020 for full service stations operating in the LPFM station's state or territory, or if issued after such date, determined in accordance with Sec. 73.1020.

(b) The license of an LPFM station that fails to transmit broadcast signals for any consecutive 12-month period expires as a matter of law at the end of that period, notwithstanding any provision, term, or condition of the license to the contrary.
